This is on on the Silver Springs Hotel in Cork this weekend, May 16th and May 17th. You should go. And not just because SortMyBooks are hosting a seminar entitled “More Profit, Less Tax” on Saturday May17th at 3.15pm.

It’s because you will be in a room full of sitting ducks. Funding agencies, the banks, the Revenue Commissioners, the CRO and all manner of service providers are waiting for you to approach their stands so they don’t look like billy-no-mates. It is exactly the right time to hit up any business support agency that you feel slightly intimidated about picking up the phone and having a chat with. They are dying for you to stop and talk to them. Anonymously. No “please hold and an agent will be with you”. No gut-watering “May I have your VAT or PPS number please”. I know we instinctively think this is so they can look us up and see what we’ve been at.  I also figure most of them could care less, but its still nice to have that, “now who needs who” feeling you can get at the stand. This is where the best of fawning customer service happens.

You also get to pick up a few gifties. When you became self employed you lost the perk of robbing the office supply cabinet. Grab as many pens and pads as you can! Fill your stationary cabinet!

Another thing you gave up when you became self employed is free education and training - but here you get free seminars. Register for as many seminars as you can cram in! Plenty to choose from.
